You do not need a doctor’s referral to see a psychologist, but getting one can be beneficial for two reasons:

  1. Medicare rebates are available for part of the session fee if your GP writes a ‘GP Mental Health Care Plan’.
  2. Keeping your GP informed about your psychological needs means they are better placed to meet your needs now and to assist you in the future.

If you have received a referral letter and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, please bring them to your first appointment.

The referral letter should include information about why you need to see the psychologist, the type of plan you have, and the number of sessions you are entitled to. It should also include the contact details and signature of your GP. The MHCP must be completed by your GP. It should include details about your medical history, current situation, an item number, as well as the signature and date from your GP.

Fees and Rebates

Our fees are significantly lower than the $300 consultation fee set by the Australian Psychological Society’s National Schedule of Recommended Fees 2023-2024 for a 46 to 60-minute session.

Fees are due at the time of consultation. We accept EFTPOS, cash, and most major credit cards.

Medicare currently provides a rebate for psychology services under the Better Health Initiative.

We can process your Medicare rebate at the time of payment, or you can process it yourself. If you choose to process it yourself,  we recommend using the Express Plus mobile app to make it simple and straightforward.

After you’ve paid the full up-front fee and have had your session with us, we’ll send you an invoice. This invoice will have all the information you need to lodge your claim directly with Medicare using the Express Plus Medicare App on your smartphone.

At the moment, we do not provide Bulk-Billing services. It is recommended that you consult your GP to find out about clinics that offer bulk billing in your area.
