treatment modalities

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a wonderfully structured and evidence-based form of psychotherapy that supports individuals in identifying and transforming unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

By exploring the connections between thoughts (cognition), feelings, and actions, CBT provides clients with practical tools to navigate challenges and enhance their mental well- being. It works particularly well for conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, phobias, and more, offering a goal-oriented approach that encourages lasting change.

I use CBT to empower clients to break free from negative patterns. We start by examining how thoughts influence emotions and behaviours. For instance, a client dealing with social anxiety might feel, “Everyone is judging me,” which can lead to avoidance.

Through CBT, we challenge this thought and practice, replacing it with balanced perspectives like, “Most people are focused on themselves.” Clients also engage in techniques such as thought journaling, behavioural experiments, and relaxation strategies to reframe their thinking and build resilience.

CBT is a collaborative process that is tailored to each individual, helping clients become their own therapists. Our sessions emphasise practical skills, such as managing panic attacks or boosting self-esteem, making sure what we learn is applicable in the real world. Whether we're addressing trauma, workplace stress, or perfectionism, I guide clients to set achievable goals, track their progress, and develop effective coping strategies. Homework assignments reinforce what we explore together, fostering a sense of independence.

With its structured yet flexible framework, CBT empowers clients to face life's challenges with confidence. My approach focuses on creating a safe and supportive space where they can unlock their potential, leading to meaningful and sustainable change.

CBT is my go-to treatment approach and the foundation of my practice. I trust its evidence-based, structured techniques to help clients tackle their challenges, reshape unhelpful thoughts, and nurture lasting behavioural change.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a warm, mindfulness-based therapy that helps you live a meaningful life guided by your values. Instead of fighting tough thoughts or feelings, ACT teaches you to accept them kindly while taking steps toward what matters most to you.

How Can ACT Help?
ACT is proven to ease challenges like:

  • Anxiety, depression, or stress
  • Chronic pain or fatigue
  • Self-doubt or feeling stuck

By building psychological flexibility, ACT helps you stay resilient, find purpose, and handle life’s ups and downs with grace.

What Happens in ACT Sessions?
In our sessions, we’ll:

  • Discover your values: Identify what matters most, like family, creativity, or growth.
  • Embrace thoughts kindly: Use mindfulness to notice thoughts (e.g., “I’m not good enough”) without letting them control you.
  • Take meaningful action: Set small, value-driven goals and practice strategies to move forward, even with discomfort.
  • Build practical skills: Try exercises like defusion (e.g., seeing thoughts as passing clouds) or breathing techniques to stay present.

Sessions are flexible, tailored to you, and focused on real-life change. Simple take-home practices help you grow between visits.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a warm and collaborative approach that centres around you, helping you tap into your own motivation to create meaningful changes in your life. By gently exploring any uncertainties and strengthening your personal goals, MI empowers you to break through barriers and take proactive steps forward. This method works wonders for those dealing with addiction, health behaviours, career changes, and lifestyle adjustments.

I love using MI to help you clarify your desires and find a resolution to any indecision. Through thoughtful questions and attentive listening, we discover what truly drives you—be it improving your relationships or managing stress more effectively. I'm here to help you express your “why,” boosting your confidence in your ability to make positive changes. Techniques like scaling questions or weighing pros and cons guide you toward actionable steps that resonate with your values.

MI creates an empathetic and non-judgmental atmosphere, making it a safe space for your journey of self-discovery. My approach ensures you feel genuinely heard and empowered, igniting lasting motivation to pursue your goals with clarity and purpose.

Schema Therapy is a warm, integrative psychotherapy that supports clients in discovering and transforming deeply rooted patterns, or "schemas," that often began in childhood or early experiences.

These patterns significantly shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and they can lead to challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or struggles with self-esteem. By blending cognitive, behavioural, and experiential techniques, Schema Therapy encourages healing and personal growth.

I use Schema Therapy to help clients gently uncover and address maladaptive schemas, like feelings of unworthiness or fear of abandonment. Together, we compassionately explore how these patterns show up in everyday life. Techniques such as imagery rescripting, chair work, and cognitive restructuring encourage clients to challenge negative beliefs, meet unfulfilled emotional needs, and develop healthier coping strategies.

Schema Therapy is both personal and collaborative, providing a safe and nurturing environment to process past wounds and build resilience. My approach empowers clients to break free from unhelpful patterns, fostering self-compassion and creating meaningful change.
